Muscatine Living

This is the season of giving and everyone gives back in their own way. For the clients at Crossroads Day Habilitation giving back has become a regular part of daily activities through meal deliveries for the Senior Resources Meals on Wheels program. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic Day Habilitation Directors have been looking for safe activities to allow clients to integrate into the community and Senior Resources had an answer with contactless meal delivery volunteer opportunities. Meals are delivered 6 days a week to help many seniors remain in their own homes by providing a nutritional meal and a daily friendly contact. Meals on Wheels has continued without interruption through the coronavirus pandemic and has grown as more seniors continue to quarantine for their safety.

Meal delivery started on a trial basis for the clients of Crossroads, but the response to the activity has been a feel good for everyone involved. After the first few rounds of meal delivery participant Lori stated that she had a great time helping out and she can’t wait to do it again, and Abi stated she had a blast delivering. While the deliveries must remain contactless for the safety of all participants, that does not stop the Crossroads volunteers from giving a wave and smile to meal recipients from a far.

The Vision 2020 partnership between Crossroads and Senior Resources has created a number of opportunities, like this, for both organizations to strengthen their programs and client experience. We are working smarter by working together.

The Meals on Wheels program is always looking for more volunteers to assist in meal delivery. You can volunteer once a month or once a week as your schedule allows. For more information contact Meals on Wheel Coordinator, Teri Piazza at 563-263-7292 or [email protected]
