FRUITLAND, Iowa–With school out and the basketball court in Fruitland’s Drake Park more popular than ever, members of the park board saw an opportunity to help raise funds to maintain and improve the park. June 26, they will host their first ever three on three basketball competition fundraiser.

Designed for basketball players of all ages, anyone can find a group of friends and enter to compete in the under 12, under 15, under 18, or 19 and older division. Families wanting to play can even compete in a special division just for them. To register, teams simply have to fill out a quick registration form with contact information (to allow organizers to give them game times), which they can print from the Fruitland 3 on 3 Facebook event and then turn in or mail the flyer to Fruitland City Hall at 104 Sand Run Road, Fruitland, IA, 52749, in care of Ashley Loveless, along with their registration fee. Registration will cost $15 before the early bird deadline of June 18 and $20 afterwards.

The morning of the tournament, the first game will tip off bright and early at 9 a.m. with tournament play continuing throughout the day. Players in each division will vie for cash prizes, trophies, and, of course, a year’s worth of bragging rights.

If you love to shoot hoops and get a little competitive with your family and friends, park board member Ashley Loveless encourages you to sign up for the first ever Fruitland three on three tournament. “It is a great way to get active and have fun with friends and family, plus you can help out the community in the process!” she enthused. “We are hoping to make this an annual tournament and add other similar tournaments if this one goes well.”

All the money raised from the tournament will go towards bettering Drake Park, making it a more enjoyable place for the whole community. “Through the tournament and concession stand, we would love to bring in a crowd and raise a couple thousand dollars to put towards the project,” stressed Loveless.
