By Kelly Cunningham, Senior Resources
Senior Resources and Zachry Group, a company who provides maintenance and production support for Bayer, began their relationship through Meals on Wheels when Zachry and Bayer teamed up to form a group of rotating volunteers to regularly deliver lunchtime meals
to local seniors.
It worked out so well for Zachry team members that they wanted to do more, and Administrative Manager Tamara Fisher reached out to Senior Resources for a list of potential projects her team could take on to help the senior community. Those projects included mending a ramp located at the Senior Resources building that needed some serious TLC. This, as they say, marked the beginning of a beautiful friendship!
Zachry not only agreed to take on the project, they provided t
he labor, materials, and tools, paid for with their winnings for Best Float in the Muscatine Fourth of July Parade! Five fearless volunteers worked tirelessly all day long (on a Saturday!) completely rebuilding the ramp from scratch, braving the heat without complaint. Their work resulted in a brand-new ramp that is not only sturdy but pleasing to the eye! The team will return in a few weeks to stain the finished ramp, and
Senior Resources and their patrons feel beyond grateful for all the time and dedication that has gone into this labor of love. It is the selflessness of volunteers and local corporations that allow Senior Resources to continue helping seniors in our community, a proud
Accomplishment itself for Muscatine County.
