MUSCATINE, Iowa–Though Muscatine likely has not seen the last of cold, winterlike days, many people wish warmer weather would arrive. Though the organizers of Almost Friday Fest cannot make summer come any faster, they do look forward to getting people excited about attending this year’s series of Almost Friday Fests by hosting the first ever Brrr Fest March 5 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Pr%f Social (208 West Eighth Street in Muscatine).
Always eager to build anticipation for Almost Friday Fest, Keep Muscatine Beautiful Members Chris Boar and Brenda Christiensen planned to hold several events over the course of the winter. However, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic made doing so difficult. As caseloads ease regionally though, they felt the time had come to host a special occasion: “We wanted to continue events throughout the winter to raise funds for Almost Friday Fest. Due to COVID, we were forced to cancel some of those events,” explained Boar. “We decided a Brrr Fest would be a great way to raise funds and have fun!”
For $25 per person, Brrr Fest attendees can warm up with many activities. Everyone who attends will receive a delicious hot drink as well as the chance to sample several different craft beers. Anyone feeling lucky can play some of the many games available and possibly even win a prize. Live music will set an upbeat tone for the afternoon, giving people one more reason to come out and enjoy themselves.
After a second winter where many events got canceled or postponed because of the pandemic, Boar cannot wait to bring the community together again for an afternoon of entertainment. “I’m looking forward to seeing people out having a good time again!” she stated. “I think everyone is ready to get back to a bit of normalcy.”
More than providing some indoor activities for people wanting to shake off their cabin fever, Brrr Fest will raise funds for Almost Friday Fest, ensuring the beloved warm weather events will have all of their usual attractions, including live bands, bounce houses and lawn games for kids, and golf carts to make sure everyone can get around easily. By covering these costs, Almost Friday Fest can put any profits it makes towards the riverfront amphitheater project, which will enhance future Almost Friday Fests and other live performances.
As people look for a reason to get out and mingle after a long winter, Boar hopes they will consider attending Brrr Fest and that the money raised from the event will get this year’s Almost Friday Fests off to a good start. “People are always looking for something to do – this will be a fun event and can help support future events this summer,” reiterated Boar.
