MUSCATINE, Iowa – The CDC is recommending a pause in the administration of the Johnson& Johnson vaccine effective today (April 13) according to Muscatine County Public Health after rare blood clots and platelet changes were reported in six people who received this vaccine (out of   just under six million doses given in the U.S.).

The pause in the distribution of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine will be in effect until the CDC and other organizations review the data and make a recommendation on safety. This does not affect Pfizer or Moderna vaccines.

Community Health Care, Inc. (CHC) will be postponing all scheduled Johnson & Johnson vaccine clinics as this time. Appointments scheduled in Muscatine this week have been switched to the Moderna vaccine. If you already signed up for the Johnson and Johnson vaccine you do not need to reserve an appointment again.

The CHC vaccine clinics will be held at The Salvation Army of Muscatine County, Iowa on Thursday, Apr. 15 (Access Code: CHC https://bit.ly/3wRYvZh), and at UnityPoint Health – Trinity Muscatine on Friday, Apr. 16 (Access Code: CHC   https://bit.ly/2OFCk7p).
