MUSCATINE, Iowa – Muscatine is a great place to live, work, and play with the City of Muscatine currently seeking applicants for a variety of positions at the Fire Department, Department of Public Works, Parks and Recreation Department, and in Administration.

MUSCATINE FIRE DEPARTMENT

The Muscatine Fire Department is seeking applicants to fill one of several vacancies the department has or will have in the coming months. (Watch the recruitment video HERE).

This is skilled fire fighter work performed as part of the Public safety operations of the City. Work involves the performance of related emergency and non-emergency fire and medical duties in line with departmental operations, as well as maintenance of all firefighting and medical equipment, building and grounds. Work is performed according to departmental procedures and regulations and instructions received from a superior officer who supervises and evaluates work performed. In the absence of a higher ranking officer, the fire fighter will begin operations according to standard firefighting practices and departmental standard operating procedures. (See FIRE FIGHTER)

DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS

The Department of Public Works is looking for an individual to drive medium to heavy duty trucks in hauling various materials; perform manual work in clearing work sites of debris. Operate equipment to clean & repair sewer collection system. May operate a variety of other pieces of light, medium, or heavy equipment in the absence of regular operators, or for training purposes. PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT

The Parks and Recreation Department is looking to fill several positions including Athletic Facilities Supervisor, Pool Manager, and various seasonal employment opportunities.

The Athletic Facilities Supervisor is specialized and technical work in the maintenance operations of Kent/Stein Park (baseball/softball complex), and the Muscatine Soccer Complex. Work involves initiation, direction and performance of specialized and technical tasks relating to the maintenance and care of turf grass areas, ball diamond surfaces, irrigation system management, parking lot and landscape maintenance, operating equipment, buildings and associated components. The Pool Manager for the Weed Park Aquatic Center is a responsible seasonal position working a flexible schedule from late May through early September. This position will work a maximum of 35-40 hours per week while the facility is open and may work minimal hours during pre- and post-season preparations. Varied availability to include some nights and weekends preferred. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated, strong leader with previous supervisory experience and excellent customer service skills. Lifeguarding certification is required. TRANSFER STATION

The Transfer station is seeking an individual to fill a part-time seasonal position as at Compost Site Technician. This is a customer service, clerical position monitoring activity at the compost site. Work involves responsibility for greeting and directing customers, taking payments, and monitoring proper disposal of compost site materials. Emphasis of the work is greeting and assisting citizens, monitoring the unloading of yard waste and brush. General supervision is received from a supervisor who assigns tasks, and may inspect the work while in progress and upon completion. (See COMPOST SITE TECHNICIAN)

Hiring Process – For civil service positions, applications are screened for minimum qualifications. Applicants meeting the criteria will be invited to participate in the civil service testing process.
