March 16, 2020
Muskie Staff and Parents,
The Muscatine Community School District will be following Governor Reynold’s recommendation to close schools through April 12, 2020, with a return date of Monday, April 13, 2020. At this point in time, we do not know if the calendar will be extended for students. Teacher make up days will be determined at a later date.
For our families:
- At this time, state associations have suspended all spring activities (athletics, music, etc.). MCSD school activities, such as prom, will be determined at a later date.
- The district is pursuing a nutrition program during this closure period. Details will be provided as soon as possible as we work through the specifics. The anticipated start date for this program will be next Monday, March 23, 2020.
For our employees:
- Less than 12 months employees will continue to receive their paycheck but may be expected to make up the hours in June.
- 12-month employees will either work from home, at their assigned areas or will be on call. Please check with your supervisor. If you are unable to meet those three criteria, you will be expected to take appropriate leave time.
Please know that we are in uncharted territory and as things evolve, protocols and guidelines may change. We understand that you may have questions that we do not have answers at this time. We will continue to have a dialogue with our community as information is made available to us. We will keep you informed.
P.S. Governor Reynolds released the press conference time. It is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. today and will be streamed live on her Facebook page.
