Eulenspiegel Puppet Theatre has always presented Puppets and Pastries: Dessert Theatre For Adults, in late February or March. Rather than cancel this, its 23rd annual event, the company has decided to go virtual. The show will be live streamed from Owl Glass Puppetry Center on Friday, March 12 at 7:00 PM. It will be available online for the following week.
Lovers of puppet theatre will still have the opportunity to see cutting edge puppetry directed towards adults, listen to music, and enjoy poetry and storytelling. All donations will help to support the Summer Neighborhood Tour, Eulenspiegel’s annual tour to parks, neighborhood centers, and low income neighborhoods.
Since serving desserts is not possible, each performer will showcase a dessert of their own making, talk about its significance to them, and provide a recipe. People who donate to the puppet theatre will receive an attractive PDF copy of all of the recipes. Eulenspiegel Board members will also provide recipes.
See puppet pieces by Eulenspiegel puppeteers Monica Leo and Stephanie Vallez as well as frequent guest puppeteer Pam Corcoran from Wisconsin and guest puppeteer Camilla Henneman from California. Eulenspiegel’s Stephanie Vallez will act as MC with the help of two chicken puppets. Longtime Iowa Poet Laureate Mary Swander will don her comedienne hat and regale us with farm jokes! Add the angelic singing voice of Laura Kittrell, the musical virtuoso of Warren Hanlin, and nostalgic poems by Duffy DeFrance for a delightful evening.
