Ashley Loveless, Director of Public Relations at Pearl City Media and breast cancer survivor, felt a need to show support for the local healthcare providers at UnityPoint Trinity Muscatine as they provide care for the community through the COVID-19 pandemic.
After seeing an idea for Friday Night Lights on Facebook, Ashley created a secret Facebook group to bring people together. The idea was simple, fill the parking lot with vehicles (with everyone staying inside their vehicles for safety) at 7:50 pm. Then, at 8 pm on the dot, every vehicle would start flashing their lights and honking their horns to thank the staff for their dedication and service.
The secret Facebook event was shared carefully to ensure hospital staff wouldn’t be aware of the upcoming tribute. Through coordination with her sister, a UnityPoint employee, the community was able to surprise the entire staff.
Over 100 vehicles, including local police and sheriff representatives, showed up and filled the parking lot with light and sound. The staff was able to briefly come outside to enjoy the tribute.
