FRUITLAND, Iowa—This February, the Fruitland Community Lions invite you to an evening of rocking fun. On Saturday, Feb 15, the group will host a dinner dance to support the Fruitland All Veteran’s Memorial.

Since the fall of 2019, the Fruitland Community Lions have worked to raise money for the Fruitland All Veterans Memorial. When completed, the memorial will have space to honor more the 200 veterans. To continue their fundraising efforts, Paul Elshoff came up with the idea of having one of Muscatine’s most popular local bands, Lefty and the Spinners, play for a fundraiser. Pleased with the idea, the group decided to move forward with it, with Elshoff and Janina Hawley planning an enjoyable evening no one will want to miss.

Held at the National Guard Armory at 5901 Grandview Avenue, attendees can enjoy dinner and drinks from Mad Marv’s beginning at 5 p. m. Following dinner, from 7 to 10 p. m., recent Iowa Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees Lefty and the Spinners will play classic rock hits to dance to. A popular act since forming during their high school days in the 1970’s, attendees will have a lot of fun reconnecting with this legendary band, which has only recently begun performing again since taking a break in 2008. Attending the dinner and dance costs $15 per person, while coming to the dance alone costs only $5.

A good opportunity for a little late Valentine’s day celebration, Nadine Brockert, a member of the Fruitland Community Lions, hopes the event will have a good turn out and that many people will appreciate, “a chance to enjoy Lefty and the Spinners music, as those of us of a certain age did for many years, reconnect with friends we may not have seen for a while, have a good time in the middle of winter, and support the building of an All Veterans Memorial.”

Brockert also hopes the event will bring financial support for the All Veterans Memorial. Currently, the group has raised $16 thousand for the memorial and looks to raise $29 thousand more.
