With only six weeks left before Christmas, businesses throughout Muscatine have started getting in the holiday spirit. To officially open the holiday shopping season and invite local residents to preview this year’s hottest trends, Downtown Muscatine will host their Holiday Open House on Sunday, November 17th, from noon to 4:00 pm.
A long-standing Muscatine tradition, Jodi Hansen, Director of the Convention and Visitors Bureau, shares that this event features many sales and special activities that make for a wonderful day out. “It’s a great opportunity for people to explore and shop downtown Muscatine on a Sunday afternoon,” she emphasized.
This year, twenty-six businesses have already made plans to hold special hours or put on special events during the Holiday Open House. Whether you want to stop at the Musser Public Library to enjoy wassail and hammer dulcimer music while having your gifts wrapped (for a small donation), sample free mimosa’s at Port City Underground and enjoy pizza discounts, or get a $1 chair massage at Sacred Space Healing and Massage, you will surely find an event tailored to your taste. “It’s always a fun day. We have enjoyed very nice crowds in the past!” Hansen shared excitedly.
Along with the special goings on the day of the Holiday Open House, the event also marks the beginning of holiday shopping hours. “Some businesses will be open on Sundays through the holiday season,” outlined Hansen.
Whatever you need for the people on your holiday shopping list, Hansen encourages you to explore the wide variety of products available right here in Muscatine during the Holiday Open House. “It is important to shop local,” she said. “Downtown Muscatine offers a wonderful variety of businesses that we hope people are able to check out during the Holiday Open House!”
With so much going on and so many ways to support local retailers, the Holiday Open House provides a great way to get excited for the holidays ahead. “I enjoy visiting the participating businesses, I love taking advantage of the treats they offer, get some Christmas shopping done, and it is a great start to getting me in the holiday spirit,” stated Hansen.
As Muscatine gets ready for the Holiday Open House, participating businesses continue to post their plans at http://downtownmuscatine.com/event/holiday-open-house-2/. Hansen suggests anyone interested visit the site, check out the deals, and start getting ready for the holiday season in Muscatine.
