Muscatine Schools is hiring a Food and Nutrition Services Manager for Muscatine High School. This Food Service Manager will work directly under the Food and Nutrition Department Supervisor to plan, organize, and direct the food and nutrition program at Muscatine High School. This is a Classified Professional position and offers a competitive salary and benefits package. The employee in this position will be assigned to work 206 days/year.

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:  USDA Professional Standards for School Nutrition Professionals, School Nutrition Association and School Nutrition Association of Iowa with 10 CEU’S each year.

OBJECTIVE: Plans, organizes, and directs the food and nutrition program in one building under the direction of the Food and Nutrition Supervisor in accordance with objectives and policies established by the Food Nutrition Department.  A manager has responsibility for a program that prepares an average of 750 to 1,500 or more meals per day.  Meals are sent from the production centers to several buildings.

Qualifications

Must possess a High School Diploma or equivalent; college level coursework in food service management and three (3) years’ experience in leading or supervising a large commercial or institutional operation. The School Food and Nutrition Manager shall possess competence in the above stated areas of responsibility. The managers must complete course in food service sanitation, fundamentals of child nutrition, principles of food preparation and SNA Certification.

Responsibilites

  • Supervises all food nutrition personnel at the production center and satellite centers. This includes periodic inspection of the operation of each satellite under their supervision not less than once per month.
  • Assists with food preparation and other kitchen operations.
  • Assists in the development of menus, which comply with federal requirements and meet the nutritional needs of students as a means to improve health and nutritional habits of children.
  • Assists in control of food and supply costs with inventory control, proper storage conditions and timely ordering of foodstuffs and supplies.
  • Attends meetings and completes records as required by the Food Nutrition Supervisor.
  • Understands and practices good nutrition in the preparation and service of food.
  • Maintains standards of sanitation, safety, production and service.
  • Maintains records required by state and federal regulations.
  • Has the ability to communicate and work with fellow employees.
  • Works with the individual principals regarding the operation of the cafeteria.
  • Maintains good public relations with students, parents, faculty, and the community.
  • Inspects equipment periodically, recommending needed repairs and/or replacement.
  • Assists in making the school food and nutrition program an integral part of the educational program.
  • Trains new employees through on-the-job training.
  • Coordinates the preparation of food for outside activities (Booster Club, FFA etc.)
  • Assigns duties based on previous experience and future needs.
  • Report accidents.
  • Timecard verification.
  • Prepares and coordinates billing for catering services.
  • Verify invoices.
  • Other duties of a similar nature to be assigned as needed.
