MUSCATINE, Iowa–Henley Group President Tyler Henley found his way to owning his own small business in Muscatine by following a unique path. A native of the greater Kansas City area, Henley attended and graduated from Kansas State University. He later worked for Kiewit, a large construction and engineering firm headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska.
During his time with Kiewit, Henley worked on projects across the United States, including at a powerplant in Tennessee. While there, Henley met his wife, an optometry student at the time. The two dated long distance for a while, but when she took a job at Family Eye Center in Muscatine, she urged him to move. Henley agreed to do so, as long as he could branch out and start his own construction company.
This dream grew into the Henley Group, which opened in November of 2020. A versatile organization, the Henley Group offers a variety of project delivery methods to suit many different needs. The Henley Group offers general contracting for both private and public projects. Most recently, they accepted the contract for the City of Muscatine’s new splashpad at Taylor Park.
Additionally, they offer program management where they represent the client, oversee the project, and manage its budget. For those who would like assistance designing their projects, the Henley Group can provide design build, in which they work in tandem with a designer to both plan for and execute a project. The Henley Group can also collaborate in a construction management at risk method project, where a contractor starts working on a project shortly after a designer comes up with plans to make sure the project moves forward as smoothly as possible from start to finish.

The Henley Group can lend their expertise to a number of different kinds of projects as well. From commercial renovations and new construction to public works projects, the Henley Group has the skills and resources to complete many sorts of builds successfully.
Though the Henley Group has only operated in Muscatine for a year and a half, Henley has already discovered he enjoys finding ways to expand his business and work with both city officials and private individuals dedicated to making their city a better place to call home. “I’ve never seen a community like this where the leadership is so focused on the community,” noted Henley. “There’s a fair bit of wealth in Muscatine, and they’re eager to keep it in the community.”
To continue getting to know the people of Muscatine and the ways he can work with them to complete the projects that fulfill the community’s unique needs, Henley joined the Greater Muscatine Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He finds that he appreciates the additional chances for, “networking (and) meeting the people in the community,” that the chamber has provided for him so far.
If your business has a construction project in their future, Henley encourages you to reach out to the Henley Group to find out how they can best assist you. You may contact them either by phone at 563-316-0026 or by emailing them.
