Mark Lofgren receives Legislative Service Award

MUSCATINE, Iowa– The Iowa League of Cities awarded Senator Mark Lofgren the Legislative Service Award during their virtual conference.

The League relies on key legislators with a deep commitment to city issues who consistently and diligently work to support and improve Iowa’s cities. By creating the Legislative Service Awards, the League shows its appreciation to legislators who have made extraordinary efforts on behalf of Iowa’s cities and who have demonstrated their willingness not only to engage but also to lead the way for cities in Iowa. The League chose legislators to received the awards who have demonstrated effort to work on city legislation, dedication to League issues, or responsiveness to League lobbyists and members, during the past session. The League wants to thank these exceptional lawmakers for their dedicated service to cities.

Lofgren earned the Legislative Service Award for his consistent and creative support of local governments and finding innovative solutions to issues that communities across Iowa are facing. Lofgren advocates for finding solutions to address blighted and nuisance properties across the state. He drafted and led legislation that provided more flexibility within Iowa Code 657A to assist communities in addressing blighted properties. Although not yet passed, Lofgren
continues to advance legislation that would provide for Land Banks in the state of Iowa. Additionally, seeing the housing needs that communities across the state have, Lofgren has provided leadership in the Homes for Iowa Program.
The Iowa League of Cities greatly appreciates elected officials like Senator Lofgren supporting the
communities Iowan’s call home.
