MUSCATINE, Iowa– The Muscatine Symphony Orchestra (MSO) will continue its 2020 MasterWorks concert season with “Imagination Comes to Life.” On Saturday, March 14 at 3:00 p.m. in the Muscatine Performing Arts Center (Central Middle School Auditorium), the symphony will present a concert featuring the most famous and recognizable music from film, television, ballet, and video games.

Maestro Brian Dollinger eagerly awaits this particular concert as it provides a perfect opportunity for anyone in the Muscatine area who has not experienced a live performance by the MSO to come and, “enjoy this fantastic group of local musicians.”

“Many of our neighbors have never been to a symphony concert because they believe they won’t recognize anything on the program. Well, for this concert, nothing is further from the truth. Every generation will be represented in the repertoire that I selected for this performance, said Dollinger. He continued, “our March MasterWorks concert has always been focused on youth, as it is our annual concert that features our Howe Foundation Young Artist Competition winner, and to encompass the entire concert in music that all ages will adore and recognize makes it all the more approachable.”

This year, Jonathan Chen, a fifteen-year-old piano student, won the Young Artist Competition. He will perform the first movement from Saint-Saens Piano Concerto No. 2.

“John Williams is probably one of the most well-known music composers of the 20th/21st centuries. Most notably his involvement with the 40 plus years composing for the Star Wars franchise, his music is beloved the world over. His wonderful talents will be on display when we perform music from one of the most amazing CGI films in history, Jurassic Park. I still remember feeling like a young child when I saw the first gigantic brontosaurus on screen.”
Including this work, music from the wondrous world of Harry Potter, HBO’s hit series Game of Thrones, and Ponchielli’s Dance of the Hours from Disney’s “Fantasia” will also feature in the program.
