2020-21 MHS Curriculum Guide: 2020-21 MHS Curriculum Guidebook   MHS Guidance staff  have met with grade level classes and have begun scheduling one-to-one meetings with students regarding their next year classes/schedule.

  • Juniors: Interested in pursuing a career in Business? 2020 Tippie Gateway Summer Program University of Iowa Opportunity: The Tippie Gateway Program is a six-day residential program for students interested in studying business at Iowa – in the hopes that you will share this information with your students.

  • TODAY! Feb. 12: 2-Hour Early Out
  • Academic Decathlon Team for 2020-2021 School Year: Mr. Plummer is looking to start an Academic Decathlon team at the high school for the 2020-2021 school year. Students who are currently in 9th-11th grade can attend an informational meeting to learn more about Academic Decathlon. We will hold the informational meeting in the band room (13-021) during Muskie Time on Friday, February 21st. Sign up in Adaptive Scheduler under Mr. Plummer.   • Feb. 17: NO SCHOOL – President’s Day
  • It’s not too late to order your MHS Yearbook! Cost is $56 and can be ordered at the Attendance Office or online at Jostens. We are not ordering extras this year, so if you want a yearbook, you will need to buy one by February 25th.
  • State Wrestling T-shirt Order Form Attached. There will NOT be an online order form due to the short turnaround for this order.  Orders are DUE BY Monday, Feb 17th @ 11:00 AM to Coach Kane (room 12-015).  Muscatine State Wrestling T-Shirt Info
  • Winter Thaw Dance will be held on Saturday, Feb. 15 from 8-10pm in the MHS Cafeteria. Tickets will be sold at the door for $5. Current MHS Student ID is required. Proceeds from the dance will go to Dance Marathon. (If you don’t have a current Student ID, please go to Student Services to pick yours up!) Winter Thaw
  • Singing Valentines are on sale Monday, February 10th through Thursday, February 13th in front of Student Services during lunch! Purchase a Singing Valentine for only $5 and have your special someone, friend, teacher, administrator, or staff member serenaded by our Muskie choir students! Want to make the song extra-special? Buy a flower for only $2, and it will be delivered to the recipient while we sing to them! Feeling shy? We can deliver the Valentine anonymously. It’s a great way to show your love, friendship, or appreciation this Valentine’s Day. All proceeds benefit the Vocal Music Activity Account. All sales are final!     Muscatine High School is proud to announce this year’s induction class into its Athletic Hall of Fame.

    This year’s class includes six (6) former Muskie athletes, and two (2) legendary Muscatine coaches.This year’s class represents outstanding achievements at the high school level and beyond.

    This year’s class of inductees will be honored at the Feb. 14th Boys’ Basketball game at MHS during the Varsity halftime.

    The Muscatine Athletic Hall of Fame started in 1984 to honor former outstanding Muskie athletes, and it now recognizes athletes, contributors and coaches that have made a difference at Muscatine High School.

  • Students: AP Research is looking for volunteers for a focus group taking place on Monday, February 17th during Muskie Time. Please review the forms that were emailed and pick up a permission slip at the Attendance Center or print one out and have it returned to Mrs. Borde by Friday the 14th to participate. Thank you!
  • Talent Show Auditions — The MHS Talent Show is back for a 4th year and will be hosted by MHS Key Club! If you are interested in participating, there are informational packets available at the attendance office. Auditions will be on Thursday, February 20th from 7:30-8:00am OR 3:30-4:30pm in the auditorium. The act must be school appropriate. The date of the actual Talent show will be Thursday, March 12th from 8:30-10:30am. If you have any questions please contact Mrs. Keltner (jen.keltner@mcsdonline.org) or Ms. Rauenbuehler.
  • New Scholarships Added:  See Scholarship section below. (March & April)
    Note: The scholarships listed are in addition to scholarships available in the Community Foundation scholarships.
  • Local Scholarship Application: Students who have completed and submitted their local scholarship packet by next Friday, February 14th, will be entered into a drawing for gift cards to local businesses. The drawing will be held on Friday at 3:45.  As of this morning, 169 seniors have started applications and only 3 have completed and submitted them.  If you need help with any portion of the application, please stop into Student Services and ask. You are encouraged to send out the requests for teacher recommendations as soon as possible.
    Note: The scholarships listed are in addition to scholarships available in the Community Foundation scholarships.
  • Required Paperwork for Open Gyms and Speed and Agility: If you have not participated in an MHS sport yet this school year, you need to turn in:
    • A completed Concussion form
    • Parent Permission Form
    • Have a valid physical on file
      These three forms need to be on file in the AD Office in order to participate in Open Gyms and the afternoon Speed and Agility Program.

  • REMINDERDesignated areas for students prior to the first bell ringing are the Cafeteria, Commons, Library, and Music Hallways in Band, Orchestra and Choir area. If not in one of these areas, students will need to relocate to these areas.  Thank you!
  • REMINDER! Parking Lot Parking: Cars in any of the parking lots must be parked legally in the parking spots. Cars that are parked illegally may cause hazardous conditions for others. Vehicles will be ticketed and drivers and parents of the vehicle will be notified. Repeat offenders may have consequences.

  • LOST & FOUND: If you’ve lost an item, please check at the Attendance Center!
  • Students entering the building prior to 7:45am should enter through the Swim entrance located across from the Bonnie Street parking lot.  The Swim entrance is open at 6:30am.
    The Main, Muskie M, and Handicap parking entrances open at 7:45am.

  • Silver Cord Form- Google Form: The Silver Cord Form is now a google form that you submit online.  Silver Cord Form link
  • Breakfast starts at 7:30am and runs until 8:15am and is available in the Cafeteria and Library Cafe.

** Silver Cord Opportunities/Volunteer Opportunities **

  • Grant Elementary is needing student volunteers to help with their annual carnival!  We are looking for volunteers to help with games, activities, and food on March 6 from 4:30-7:00 pm. Please contact Leslie Bennett at Grant Elementary if you are able to help out!  563-263-7005.
  • Hershey Manor is looking for some chore help. This can range from clearing snow off and around their vehicle to dusting or simply just want some company. If interested, please Misty Wetzel at 563-263-8304.  Hershey Manor is a public housing facility for the elderly of Muscatine. This is non-assisted living for them and many are looking for some chore help.
  • Madison Elementary is looking for volunteers on Friday, March 6th from 4-7:30 for the Madison elementary spring carnival? Sign up using this link: https://forms.gle/jFUmk5SkpUBAw7Nf7
  • The MCSD Food & Nutrition Dept. is looking for MHS students to help students at elementary schools with breakfast cards & getting through the serving lines any time from 7-8am during the 2019-2020 school year. ** Spring Sports Information **

  • Girls’ Tennis Meeting: There will be a girls’ tennis meeting in the Commons on Thursday, February 13th from 3:45-4:15pm.  If you signed up to play girls’ tennis this spring, please come to this informational meeting. If you are unable to attend or have questions, please contact Coach Czerwiec at connie.czerwiec@mcsdonline.org.  See you there!!
  • Girls’ Golf: Any girls interested in playing golf this spring please contact Mr. Windham by email, john.windham@mcsonline.org or stop by Room 23-007 in the Business/Foreign Language wing.
  • MHS Softball Signup & Player/Parent Meeting will be held on February 16 from 4-5:30pm in the Auditorium.  Any girl interested in playing should plan on attending this meeting with a parent/guardian! If you are unable to attend, please contact Coach Hopkins at HopkinsS@hnicorp.com

** Fundraisers **

  • MHS Softball Boosters SINGO “Funraiser” will be held on Saturday, February 29 at The Rendezvous, 3127 Lucas St. A DJ will play 23-30 second music clips and yo have to match the song with the title on your bingo card!  All proceeds benefit the MHS Softball program for the 2020 season!
    Cost is $15 per person or $120 for a table of 8.  See flyer for more details.

  • Muscatine Football Club MINGO Night – Saturday, February 22nd at Ss. Mary & Mathias Catholic School Gym.  Doors open at 6pm. Grab your friends and join the Muscatine Football Club for a new and exciting musical spin on the game of Bingo! A DJ will play 23-30 second music clips and you have to match the song with the title on your bingo card!
    Adults only event – 21+.  Cost is $10 per person / includes two bingo cards. Add’l cards can be purchased for $5.

  • Senior Survivor Dodgeball Tournament: February 17 @ 1pm at MHS Gymnasium.  5-8 people per team, $3 per person entry fee. Sign-up sheet is at the Attendance Center.

  • Muscatine Race for the Schools will be on Saturday, May 2, 2020 taking place at Muscatine High School. Muskie Mile Timed Run – 8AM, 5K Run/Jog/Walk – 8:30AM. Race information is available at www.muscatineracefortheschools.org, Muscatine Race for the Schools Registration Info or you can pick up a form at the MHS Attendance Center or any Muscatine school building.

  • Seniors – MCC Foundation Scholarships: The application portal for MCC Foundation scholarships for the 2020/2021 academic year is now open or Seniors Interested in attending Muscatine Community College. Deadline for applications is March 1, 2020. Students can apply by going to: www.eicc.edu/scholarships
  • Seniors!!!! The local scholarship through the Community Foundation of Greater Muscatine portal is open!  Don’t lose out on great scholarship opportunities! For those of you who missed Mrs. Hawkin’s presentations last week, here is the presentation link 2020 Muscatine High School Local Scholarship Information. You can pick up a copy of your transcript in Student Services. Deadline to apply is Thursday, March 12, 2020 at 11:59pm.
