MUSCATINE, Iowa–A Muscatine resident, who wished to remain anonymous, donated a portion of her GPC settlement check to the Salvation Army of Muscatine County for their Rescue Christmas campaign. The citizen made the donation to honor her father, who participated in the Angel Tree and Toy Shop program, which pairs people with a child in need to give holiday gifts to.

Salvation Army of Muscatine County Lieutenant Greg Bock said the donation represented the first of the year to the Rescue Christmas campaign. The campaign began Oct. 1 and looks to raise money to support the Salvation Army’s holiday outreach programs and yearlong offerings by raising money even before the traditional Red Kettle Campaign begins. “The Salvation Army across the USA is working hard to Rescue Christmas from the many hardships that COVID-19 has caused for many families, especially those in Muscatine County,” elaborated Bock.

Bock welcomed the donation and appreciated the resident’s commitment to helping the Rescue Christmas campaign. “It wasn’t a huge amount, but knowing this gift was sacrificial meant the world to me and more importantly, will mean the world to a child this Christmas,” shared Bock. “The fact that the check had just arrived Friday and she contacted me the same day–it was the best call I got all week!”

The Salvation Army continues to accept donations for the Rescue Christmas campaign. If you would like to donate, you may do so online at donate.saheartland.org/helpinghope or by mailing or delivering a check to the Salvation Army of Muscatine’s office at 1000 Oregon Street, Muscatine.
