The Muscatine Community School District (MCSD) announced that the Roy J. Carver Charitable Trust awarded them a one-million-dollar grant. This grant will assist in funding the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) addition at Muscatine High School (MHS). Associate Superintendent Mike McGrory stated, “The grant from the Carver Trust will enable the district to achieve its goal of building a state-of-the-art STEM facility.”

McGrory further noted that the new science wing will provide students access to safe, spacious labs, and technology upgrades that will enhance curriculum and learning experiences for Muskie students. Architectural components, such as flexible labs, collaboration zones, and an outdoor instruction area (including a green roof), will make it possible for students to thoroughly study many enhanced topics, including those outlined in the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). The district feels that the addition will make MHS a regional STEM destination that builds partnerships with local businesses and Muscatine Community College, creating pathways to a two or four-year institution, a trade school, or for entering the workforce directly.

Roy J. Carver advocated for helping young people receive an outstanding education. Because of the Carver Charitable Trust’s generous support, his legacy will continue to have an indelible positive imprint on the lives of Muscatine students. MCSD greatly appreciates the support of the Roy J. Carver Charitable Trust.
