EDYTH WOOTEN MUSCATINE, Iowa – Edyth D. Wooten, 85, of Lutheran Living passed away, Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at 11:50 am. A Memorial Service for Edyth will be held at a later date. The Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Burial will be in Bevins Grove Cemetery in Marshall County. Memorials may be made to the Seventh-day Adventist Church, the National Alzheimer’s Association or to Hospice Compassus in Edyth’s name. Edyth Darlene Foster was born July 19, 1934 in Battle Creek, Iowa, the daughter of Charles H. and Alberta Lois Peffer Foster. She graduated high school from Oak Park Academy in Nevada, Iowa in 1952. She attended Union College Lincoln, NE where she received a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education in 1956. She taught in a one room church school in Marshalltown, Iowa where she met Dean Wooten. They married on June 11, 1961. They moved to Muscatine in 1965. Edyth and Dean are members of the Muscatine Seventh-day Adventist Church. Edyth loved to cook and bake. She was known for her homemade wheat bread. She made dozens of loaves of bread to give out to family, friends and neighbors. At church potlucks everyone asked if she had made her potato salad. Many comments were made, that they put in the same ingredients, but it never tasted as Edyth’s did. Edyth volunteered in many roles at her church. She led out or assisted with weekly children’s programs and VBS. She loved teaching and being around children. She also loved the Lord and gave bible studies to share her faith. She is survived by her husband, Dean Wooten of Lutheran Living, three children, and five grandchildren. Son, Tim Wooten of Tulsa, OK; Son, Ben Wooten of Sterling, CO and his children, Heather Wooten of Collegedale, TN and Brock Wooten of Greeley, CO; Daughter, Christy and spouse Robert Decker of Chesnee, SC and their children, Nick Decker of Collegedale, TN, Jessica Decker of Chesnee, SC and Thomas Decker of Chesnee, SC. She is also survived by her siblings, Mary Jenson of Battle Creek, IA; Charles “Chuck” (Dorothy) Foster of Townsend, DE; Merlie (Jim) Kalsem of Ames, IA; James “Jim” (Helen) Foster of Knoxville, IA; Carol (Rolly) Biegler of Pendleton, OR; 2 sisters-in-law, Sharon Wooten of Muscatine, IA and Melody (Randy) Waltemeyer of Marshalltown, IA; nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Lois Foster and brother William Foster.
