Why are you running for election?
I would like to see the Grandview corridor reconstruction and revitalization project through to completion. I enjoy being able to help people and try to make Muscatine a better place to live.
What is the most important issue facing your office? Why does it matter? How will you address it?
Decreasing revenue due to the loss, over 8 years, of the property tax rollback from the State. Increasing costs along with this loss will require some creative approaches to maintain current city services. Strategies to attract more business and services to broaden tax base.
What is the second most important issue facing your office? Why does it matter? How will you address it?
Housing shortage at all levels. No housing/no population growth/stagnant tax base. Support Ignite Vitality Thru Workforce Housing and developers wishing to build new housing and/or renovate existing structures.
If elected, what steps would you take to improve perceptions of Muscatine in the surrounding area?
The City supports GMCCI in their work to attract businesses, individuals and tourism to Muscatine. City Council, MCSD board and the County Board of Supervisors need to work together to insure that a positive message comes from our area. Unfortunately, negativity is very difficult to change.
What is the most important thing you would like voters to know about you that they may not?
My purpose for holding a council seat is to serve the people of Muscatine and 4th ward. I have no agenda of my own and listen to all viewpoints, whether or not I agree. The best decisions are reached through compromise.
