NAMI – Basics Education Program

Grade/Age: Families; Date: Registration ends March 30, 2020NAMI Basics is a no-cost 6-week course for parents, foster parents and primary caregivers of adolescents who are exhibiting signs or symptoms of a mental health condition. Course runs through May 7. Childcare and foster parent CEU are available.

Foster parents are eligible to obtain credit training hours. (2.5 hours for 6 weeks = 15 hours).

This nationally-developed program is made possible by the investment of the Muscatine Health Support Granting Fund. NAMI is partnering with the Muscatine Department of Public Health to promote early detection and treatment for mental health conditions. This course is taught by trained parents or caregivers who have similar lived experiences with their own children and allows families to connect, learn, and empower themselves to overcome new challenges. Course Topics Include: ~The impact mental health conditions can have on the whole family ~Available professional help, treatment options and therapies ~Resources to help navigate school and justice systems ~How to advocate for your child’s rights and to prepare and respond to crisis situations ~Self-care
