This August, the Nichols City Council (the Council) continues to work hard to keep the city in tip top shape. This month, the Council has begun working with Veenstra & Kimm Inc. (V&K), an engineering firm specializing in wastewater management and facilities upgrades. City wastewater management has presented an ongoing concern to the Council, and they look forward to developing a long-term solution to keep city residents safe and comfortable.

For well over a year, the Council has worked on finding the best way to update Nichols’ aging manholes, as well as make improvements to its lift station and lagoon. Now, the City has officially hired V&K, to begin preliminary inspections and create a customized plan for addressing Nichols’ needs. In the next several weeks, V&K will inspect each manhole, televise the sewer system extensively, and tour the lift station and lagoon. After they gather data from each of these sources, they will create a plan indicating what repairs and upgrades the city needs and outline in what order V&K will address each concern. From there, V&K will apply for various grants to cover the cost of the projects.
