NICHOLS, Iowa—In accordance with Governor Kim Reynolds public health emergency disaster declaration, the Nichols City Council approved closing all playgrounds in the City at their April 8 meeting. The Council put up caution tape later in the week.

Though residents of Nichols cannot take advantage of public facilities right now , the Council  took steps that will benefit them later. At the April 8 meeting, they approved hiring Reimers Lawn Care to mow the parks and other public outdoor areas for the remainder of 2020.

The Nichols Volunteer Fire Department reported that they purchased the LED lights for their bays they discussed at the March meeting and installed them with help from Chown Appliance. The Department also has plans to repair their back-up generator and received $3,641.71 to make the repairs. The Council will continue looking into finding a contractor to fix a leak in the fire station roof.
