NICHOLS, Iowa–Now that warmer weather has arrived and Governor Kim Reynolds has reopened playgrounds, the City of Nichols has continued to make plans to update their public parks. In 2019, the City began installing new swings at both of its parks, and completed that work along with some other general maintenance earlier this year. To finish the work they started, the City Council voted at their June 10 meeting to purchase and put new sand in the area around the playground equipment and in the larger park’s sandbox. The City will purchase and have the sand brought in by Reimers Lawn Care.
Since neither the Muscatine County Fair nor the Muscatine Fourth of July parade will take place this year, Nichols resident Kathy Esmoil approached the council about the possibility of having a small street fair later this summer, utilizing both the park and nearby side streets to allow for social distancing. The fair could include the sale of food and drinks as well as other entertainment. Esmoil will work with the Nichols Volunteer Fire Department to create a more detailed plan to present to the Council at a later date. The Council did not take any action on her suggestion yet.
