Martin Gilbert Huseman, who preferred to be called Gil, passed away peacefully on April 10th, 2023, at the age of 83. Gil was born on October 17th, 1939, in Schaller, Iowa, to Martin Louis Huseman and Gladys Irene Jacobson Huseman. He grew up in Iowa and attended high school, graduating in 1957. After completing his high school education, Gil enlisted in the Navy, where he served for two years.

Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy, Gil enrolled in the University of Northern Iowa and graduated in 1964. While in college, he met Sharon (Naeve) Huseman, the love of his life, and they were married on June 10th, 1962. Gil and Sharon raised two daughters together, Loni Rhodes and Wenda Castillo.

After completing his education, Gil and his family moved to Muscatine, Iowa, where they lived on the family farm for 40 years.  He worked for the community college developing business courses for the Feed and Fertilizer Marketing Program for four years. He then transitioned to work for the Muscatine School District as the business manager for 20 years and the director of facilities for 10 years until his retirement. Gil was highly respected in the community for his tireless work and dedication to his job.

Gil is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sharon, and his daughters Loni Rhodes (husband Jeff Rhodes) and Wenda Castillo (husband Peter Castillo). He also leaves behind two granddaughters, Samantha Toby (husband Joe Toby) and Stacee Millett (husband Chance Millett), and two grandsons, Isaac Castillo and Ethan Castillo. Gil had five great-grandchildren, Killian and Ryker Bruns, and Theadora, Abygail, and Eloise Millett.

Gil was preceded in death by his parents, Martin Louis Huseman and Gladys Irene Jacobson Huseman, and his sisters, Beverly and Joann.

Gil will be remembered for his kind and gentle nature, his love of family and being on the water fishing and boating, and his dedication to his work, especially on the farm. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Private family interment will be held at the Rock Island National Cemetery with Military Honors arranged by the Snyder & Hollenbaugh Home for Funeral & Cremation Services of Muscatine.  Online condolences may be let for the family at www.sandhfuneralservice.com.
