MUSCATINE, Iowa – Sam Sulzberger, 57, of Muscatine, passed away on February 13, 2023, at Trinity Rock Island.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 17, 2023 at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Reverend Aleese Kenitzer will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mike Hafner, Brian Lawrence, Scott McConnaha, Matt Draves, Terrell Hoffner, and Joe Heidgerken. Following the burial, there will be time for food and fellowship at American Legion.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00pm on Friday, February 17, 2023, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family for a future scholarship fund. Online condolences may be made at www.wittichfuneralhome.com.

Sam was born on May 22, 1965, in Muscatine, the son of Kay and Susan Marie Lamp Sulzberger. He married Vicki Draves on August 21, 1987.

Sam graduated from Louisa-Muscatine High School in 1984. He owned and operated Bayfield Landscaping for 30 years.

He was an avid artifact hunter. Sam enjoyed gardening, playing the guitar, and working on cars and equipment with his dad, boating, and fishing. In his younger days, he liked to snow ski. Sam loved to spend time with his grandchildren and traveling with his wife.

Sam is survived by his wife, Vicki Sulzberger of Muscatine; sons, Ian (Avery Morgan) Sulzberger of Lake of Ozarks, Missouri and Aaron (Erica) Sulzberger of Lake of Ozarks, Missouri; grandchildren, Sean Sulzberger, Liam Reed, and Maddox Sulzberger; mother, Susan Ross of Ames; and his siblings, Tim (Vicky) Sulzberger of Muscatine, Jeff (Amy) Sulzberger of Muscatine, and Mike (Lori) Sulzberger of Ames.

He was preceded in death by his father, Kay Sulzberger on October 19, 2021.
