Thomas was born on August 4, 1954, in Muscatine, the son of Raymond Dean and Rosie L. Slater Hahn. He considered his housemates as part of his family, and was well known throughout Muscatine, especially within the disability community.
Thomas worked at Crossroads for many years, and later at Hy Vee, where he always enjoyed interacting with the customers. He was an avid Hawkeye fan, often wearing his black and gold to show his love for the team. He enjoyed watching westerns, like Gunsmoke, and listening to Johnny Cash. He also loved making the people around him laugh, and in quieter moments, you could find him playing solitaire on his iPad.

Thomas was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ted and Gene; and his sister Pamela.
