Pearl of Muscatine: Megan Francis

Originally from San Francisco, Megan Francis, and her husband, Seth, moved to Muscatine in 2009. Though it took some time to acclimate to the colder climate (and the challenges of dealing with snow), the two soon felt at home in their new community.

Shortly after their move, Francis took a job at Sunnybrook at Muscatine as their marketing director and began falling in love with Muscatine’s long and colorful past. “From my early days working at Sunnybrook, I really enjoyed learning about Muscatine through the eyes of our seniors and later joining the board of Senior Resources, which gave me a new appreciation of everything our seniors have done for Muscatine,” said Francis. “There is a rich history here in Muscatine, and our seniors are a part of that history; it is our turn to give back to them.”

As Francis became established in the community, she found many ways to give back. Over the past eleven years, she served with many organizations that help seniors and support the community, including the Alzheimer’s Association, the Greater Muscatine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Hershey Manor Board, the Members Community Credit Union Board, the Muscatine Elderly Consortium, and the Rotary Club Board.

This year, Francis took a new position with Vision 2020, a new non-profit organization in Muscatine that helps coordinate services between Crossroads, the Muscatine Center for Social Action (MCSA), the Muscatine Welfare Association, and Senior Resources to better serve seniors and those with disabilities, among others. In her role as interim deputy director, Francis will help with operations and staffing for the Muscatine Welfare Association and Senior Resources and create public relations campaigns to spread the word about Vision 2020’s good work.

In her work with Vision 2020 and all the other organizations she gives her time to, Francis looks forward to continuing to help Muscatine take care of all its residents. “The services these non-profits provide for the senior, disabled, and displaced populations in Muscatine are so important, I am excited to assist in the organization and long term sustainability to help ensure those services continue to meet the needs in Muscatine,” she shared.
