Purple and Gold met for their monthly meeting on Thursday, November 21st at the Muscatine Community School District (MCSD) board office. An exciting time for Muskie athletics, Wrestling Head Coach Joseph Kane shared the wrestling program’s outlook for the season ahead, and Activities and Athletic Director Tom Ulses shared plans for renovations to Muscatine Community Stadium.
After an exciting season complete with several state tournament participants in 2018-2019, Kane looks forward to an even more successful season of wrestling this year. With junior Tim Nimely returning for his second year of varsity wrestling, Kane thinks he may have what it takes to place in the state tournament. “We are looking for him to take that next step from a state qualifier to a state placer and maybe even the next state champion,” Kane shared. In other areas, the wrestling program appears strong too. So far this season, the team has a roster of forty-five, up from the number of students participating over the last few years.
Later in the program, Ulses shared plans to upgrade Muscatine Community Stadium. As all the other stadiums in the Muskie’s conference have received renovations within the last nine years, Ulses feels the time has come for Muscatine to make upgrades too. Currently, MCSD plans to make renovations in several phases across 2020 and 2021.
