Ride Review: Ducky’s Lagoon

One of the things that I would like to do with this column is to do reviews of the local two wheeled hot spots around Muscatine. The biker bars and bike nights around town get a lot of attention this time of year, and I would like to ride around and bring you the ins and outs of each of them. Plus, it gives me a chance to get out there and ride and see some new places, and that’s always a good thing!

The first place I would like to do a review on is one of my favorite spots, Ducky’s Lagoon! Ducky’s is located right along the Mississippi River on Hwy 92, just west of Andalusia. It’s a great destination for local riders, with great scenery, not to mention there is always something to do.

The ride out to Ducky’s from Muscatine is great. You head across the Muscatine Bridge, which is an amazing view in itself, and head up over the bluff toward Illinois City. The roadways are pretty decent, and there are really only a few spots where things get a little dicey. Heading down over the hill right around the Loud Thunder area has some pretty nasty potholes at the moment, but there are signs posted warning of the rough road ahead, which is hopefully an indicator that repairs are on the way. You will be in store for some rolling hills and lots of little farms along the way.

If you have the time, a trip through Loud Thunder State Park and their campground is highly recommended. If you are fortunate enough to time this ride in the later evening as the sun is beginning to go down, you will have one laid back peaceful ride ahead of you, although I have to mention that watching for deer along this highway is a must! Keep your eyes open!

Once you arrive at Ducky’s, chances are you will be greeted with some killer tunes right out the gate. There is always music bellowing out from the banks of this chill little bar and restaurant. Which brings me to the food. The food! There are definitely some good eats at this place, and if you like burgers, ribs, and all the delicious fried foods you’re in the right spot! The service is pretty good and even with a crowd you are usually not waiting too long to eat.

The music, the food, the scenery, and the atmosphere at Ducky’s makes for one enjoyable ride and night out. We often make a family night out of it and bring the kids along. There is a nice little playground area for them with a slide and a couple swings. Our kids love going on bike night and checking out all the sweet sleds lined up and shinning as the Midwest sun creeps down over the river. Ride there, jam out, grub, and enjoy yourself!

Shoot me a message on Facebook if you have a location worth checking out!
