MUSCATINE, Iowa–SEAL Family Legacy’s Board of Directors formally announces its Inaugural Legacy Ride and extends an invitation to the public to attend the free patriotic event. The annual ride’s purpose is to spread awareness of U.S. military members who lost their lives in service to our country and raise both awareness and financial support for the children and family they left behind (Gold Star Families).
The event will take place Saturday, July 16. Opening ceremonies will commence at 9:45 a.m. with a presentation of colors by local Vietnam Veterans at the Waterfront Convention Center in Bettendorf. The scheduled ride departure time is 11:00 a.m. and is open to all vehicles capable of safely maintaining the minimum posted speed limit on highways and interstates.
Mandy Angotti, SEAL Family Legacy’s Co-Founder and Co-Chair shared, “we are so excited to offer this free event to the public, to come together as a community, and to show our appreciation for those who have paid the ultimate price in service to our country and to support the families with children they’ve left behind.”
Jose Cerda, also a SEAL Family Legacy Co-Founder and Co-Chair stated, “I echo Mandy’s comments and would love to see as many people there as possible – it’s an experience that will definitely have a positive impact on all who attend and show Gold Star Families that they’re not alone.”
At this time, well-over 100 participants have “RSVP’d” (though it’s not required), including some U.S. Navy SEALs, with the potential to reach up to approximately 500 participants in total. The ride will take the group from the Waterfront Convention Center in Bettendorf up to the Dubuque area, through Maquoketa, Goose Lake, LeClaire and arrive at The Quarry in Bettendorf at approximately 4:00 p.m. Participants can expect police escorts at various points throughout the ride, and overpasses and streets along the route to be lined with first responders, various groups, and local townspeople, all displaying American Flags and showing patriotic support. Food and drinks will be available at various stops along the ride route and at the conclusion of the ride from vendors, and participants will have the opportunity to learn more about SEAL Family Legacy’s mission.
All are welcome to attend the opening ceremonies at 9:45 a.m., whether riding or not. This free event provides an opportunity for all to learn what SEAL Family Legacy’s 501c3 non-profit is about and offers attendees the opportunity to help spread the word of its mission of serving Gold Star Families and honoring the fallen.
