Members of the Muscatine Police Department will teach and conduct a series of self-defense workshops for girls and women at the Muscatine Community YMCA. Each one-time course includes discussion of safety, awareness of surroundings, what to do in certain situations, and practice of basic self-defense techniques. The courses will also touch on social media and internet safety. The classes are free, but class size is limited, so participants must pre-register with the YMCA. Any non-YMCA members 18 and older should bring a photo I.D. For the girls workshops, moms, guardians, or adult family members must accompany the girls or teens and will participate with them. Workshops being offered are:
- Girls 10-13 years with moms – Thursday, June 10th, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
- Adult Women 18 and older – Wednesday, June 16th , 6:30-8:30 p.m.
- Girls 14 and older with moms – Tuesday, June 22nd, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
