WEST LIBERTY, Iowa–Some residents of Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty have contracted COVID-19. According to a post on the long term care facility’s Facebook page, an unspecified number of residents have tested positive for the virus.

When reached for comment, Administrator Shelly Wicks refused to confirm the cases or elaborate on the number of residents affected, stating, “I don’t like to talk to periodicals about what is going on at our homes.”

By Sept. 11, the Iowa Department of Public Health had reported the outbreak on Iowa’s COVID-19 tracking website, coronavirus.iowa.gov. As of 9 a. m. the department reported 19 positive cases of COVID-19 among Simpson Memorial Home staff and residents.
