MUSCATINE, Iowa–For the first time since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Special Olympics Muscatine athletes participated in the State Summer Games. Aquatics coaches Sara Pfeiffer and Tracy Rininger and bocce, soccer, and track and field coaches Suzanne Bissell, Taylor Knopik, Shannon Johnson, and Tim Atkins took great pride in the athletes’ achievements. All together Special Olympics earned 16 gold, 11 silver, and one bronze metal in aquatics; three bronze medals, one silver metal, and one fourth place ribbon in bocce; four gold, three silver, and one bronze medal in soccer; and eight gold medals, seven silver medals, one bronze medal, one fourth place ribbon, and one fifth place ribbon in track and field.
