    MUSCATINE, Iowa – The Asphalt Overlay Program for Fiscal Year 2020-2021 will begin on Monday (May 3) according to the Department of Public Works. Manatt’s was awarded both the Street Asphalt Overlay Program and the Alley Asphalt Overlay Program in March.

     

    Milling is expected to begin on Monday with all work expected to be completed by June 2, weather permitting. Since Manatt’s was awarded both contracts, the contractor has put together the order the sections will be milled and subsequently overlaid with asphalt.

     

    Land restrictions will be in place as the sections are milled and overlaid. Drivers should be alert to traffic control devices and flaggers as the work progresses, and be patient in construction zones.

     

    Following is the proposed milling order:

    1. Overlay #8 James place: Parkington to dead end.
    2. Alley #1 Hawthorne Lane & Washington St: Orchard Ave. to Park Ave.
    3. Alley #9 Hawthorne Lane & Parkington Dr: Orchard Ave. to Park Ave.
    4. Alley #7 Harrison St. & McArthur St: Lincoln Blvd. to Grand Ave.
    5. Alley #5 Jackson St. & Monroe St: Lincoln Blvd. to Grand Ave.
    6. Overlay #1 Cypress St: East 2nd St. to Alley
    7. Overlay #2 Washington St: Cypress St. to Walters St.
    8. Alley #8 Cedar St. & Mullberry Ave: 8th St. to 9th St.
    9. Alley #4 Cedar St. & Walnut St: 7th St. to 8th St.
    10. Alley #6 Chestnut St. & Iowa Ave: 5th St. to 6th St.
    11. Alley #3 Pine St. & Linn St: 3rd St. to 4th St.
    12. Alley #2 Hagerman Dr. & Lorenz St: Terrace Heights Dr. to Roscoe Ave.
    13. Overlay #3 Busch St: Hershey Ave. to Mill St.
    14. Overlay #6 Indiana St: Schley Ave. to Benham Ave.
    15. Overlay #7 Benham Ave: Indiana St. to Wisconsin St.
    16. Overlay #9 Dewey Ave: Indiana St. to Oregon St.
    17. Overlay #4 Houser St: Cedar St. to Karen Dr.
    18. Overlay #4 Houser St: Karen Dr. to Mulberry Avenue.

    Drivers are reminded to slow down and use caution when travelling through the construction zone, obey traffic control devices, and be aware of workers. Use an alternate route if possible.
