Superintendent Pat Coen Announces Retirement from the Burlington Community School District

BURLINGTON, Iowa–Yesterday, Superintendent Pat Coen announced he will retire from his position as Superintendent of the Burlington Community School District. Coen will officially retire from the position effective June 30, 2022 after eight dedicated years of service.

Coen reflected on his time at the Burlington Community School District with appreciation. “During my tenure, I have thoroughly enjoyed the successes, challenges, and opportunities found within Burlington Community School District’s servitude to children, the board, and the greater Burlington Community,” Coen said.

“I wish each of our students, staff, the Burlington Community School District, and the greater community the very best. I also want to thank each and every one of you for breathing life into our mission, vision and values.”

School Board President Joel Sieren thanks Superintendent Coen for his service. “We want to celebrate the accomplishments made under his leadership,” Sieren said. “From improving graduation rates to opening the Corse Early Childhood Center, the Burlington community is a better place because of his time here.”

The school board will conduct a search process for the next Superintendent of the Burlington Community School District. The search and interview process will begin in January 2022. “We’re excited as a board to find qualified candidates to continue to build on the successes we’ve seen in recent years.” Sieren stated.
