Years ago, the Land of the Swamp White Oak Preserve (SWOP) held an event called Swamp Stomp where people stomped acorn seeds into the ground to grow more oaks. When Hannah Howard became the Community Coordinator for the Nature Conservancy in Iowa, she revived Swamp Stomp and broadened its reach. Now in its third year, Swamp Stomp welcomes everyone to celebrate nature.

On Sunday, September 22nd from 1:00 to 6:00 pm, people of all ages can go to Ardon Creek Winery (Ardon) for free activities, including games and animal demonstrations. Flash in a Pan and the Roe Family Singer will perform, and Skinny’s BBQ will sell concessions.

Naturalists from SWOP will lead walking tours of the preserve. A shuttle will leave Ardon and drop walkers off for a guided tour showing the diversity of the preserve. A gentle hike, Howard still suggests walkers wear long pants and closed toed shoes for comfort and safety.

With so much to do, Howard encourages everyone who loves the great out doors to check out this year’s Swamp Stomp. “There’s something for everyone, so join in on the fun!”
