MUSCATINE, Iowa – Crews from the Department of Public Works and prime contractor KE Flatwork, Inc., are finishing up cleanup activity on West 8th Street today (November 26) with the contractor planning to open up the street to traffic Wednesday (November 27).

The contractor was finishing back-filling behind the curbs and removing equipment on Tuesday while the City street sweeper has been at work cleaning the main line of 8th Street. City crews will also sweep the side streets where construction took place this year as best as they can before the rain moves in.

All temporary traffic control signs and barricades will be removed during the work day Wednesday including those for the stated detour on 7th Street from Cedar to Broadway.

Drivers are advised that there is a temporary pavement patch on West 8th Street near the intersection with Linn Street. The temporary pavement was installed to make a smooth transition into the pavement restoration process during Phase 4C which will pick up where Phase 4B left off and begin in March 2020.

Phase 4C of the West Hill Sanitary and Storm Sewer Separation Project will begin in March 2020 and will close 8th Street from just west of Roscoe Avenue to just east of Broadway Street. A public meeting on Phase 4C will be held in late February or early March.

Phase 4B began on March 21, 2019, with the first phase or work including 8th Street from Cedar to halfway between Iowa and Chestnut. The second continued the work on 8th Street to just before the intersection with Linn and included a half-block of Chestnut, the 700 block of Pine, and a portion of Fuller Street.
