WILTON, Iowa— “The Addams Family—a New Musical” puts a unique and a little macabre twist on the age-old story of children coming of age and creating a flap when they bring future in-laws home for dinner. Fittingly, the Wilton Fine Arts Guild has put a new twist on their 34-year tradition of hosting dinner theatre by bringing “The Addams Family” to the stage this March.

A longtime member of the Guild, Connie Hoekstra shared that for many years, the group focused on doing comedy or mystery plays for their annual dinner theatre event, sometimes with song and dance before the show. Then, two years ago, they decided to change things up a bit by performing their first dinner musical. A resounding success, the Guild decided to make a habit of performing dinner theatre musicals about every other year.

For their second ever dinner musical, the Guild decided to get creative and perform a newer musical. After speaking to several local actors, they decided “The Addams Family” would prove a perfect fit. “We just have a really fantastic cast,” said Hoekstra, who believes, “just the magnitude of the talent,” will blow audience members away.

As Hoekstra helped bring the show to life, she found herself falling in love with the show, and believes audiences will too. Along with creative costumes (which Hoekstra says, “are a hoot”) and intricate makeup, “The Addams Family” bursts with high energy dance numbers as characters tell the story of Gomez and Morticia Addams coming to terms with their daughter Wednesday wanting to marry a “normal boy” and introducing them to his family. Along with many laugh out loud moments, Hoekstra feels the show’s theme of accepting everyone for themselves will resonate with the audience.

To add another layer of innovation to their show, the Guild will use projections to help set the scene in the numerous locations used throughout the show. “We’re really pleased with how that’s going to look,” enthused Hoekstra.

Along with a wonderful show, the Guild will also provide a delectable dinning experience. Guests will eat plated meals at white clothed tables complete with centerpieces. Wait staff will take drink orders, allowing patrons to try their signature show themed drink or choose anything they like from the Guild’s full bar. A tasty dessert treat will wrap up the dining experience, leaving the audience full and satisfied before the show begins.

The Guild will perform “The Addams Family” at 6 p.m. on Friday, March 13 (a fitting opening night), Saturday, March 14, Friday March 20, and Saturday March 21, as well as at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 15. Each ticket costs $25 for both dinner and the show. Those interested in attending must make reservations ahead of time in order to secure their spot and to choose an entrée of rice pilaf stuffed chicken breast or fish.
