Muscatine Living

You know what’s a powerful statement? The Hy-Vee stores here in Muscatine employ a total of 661 people. That’s a whole bunch of helpful smiles who show up to work everyday ready to provide stellar customer service. Without knowing the exact figures, I’d have to guess that we’re in the top 10 largest employers in town.

I’m thankful for all of you who by shopping at Hy-Vee allow me to take care of my family. That means an awful lot, and I hope you know it!

This December will mark three years that I’ve been working for Hy-Vee. Time certainly flies by! I’m still asked quite often if I, “miss the radio station?” There are certainly aspects of that job that I miss, mainly the daily interaction with listeners. However, my role at Hy-Vee puts me in front of thousands of people per week, and I truly am grateful for that.

I also enjoy getting to scratch my creative itch via the “Hy-Vee Today with Tony Tone” show. That show happens Monday to Friday live at 8:30 a. m. via Facebook, YouTube, and MP&W cable channel 5. My hope is that you can see that I’m smiling even while wearing my face mask.

This pandemic has shown how strong both Hy-Vee stores are here in Muscatine. My coworkers stepped up and never stopped showing up to take care of people. We had 10 to 15 hour days and empty shelves, but the one thing that remained consistent was our positive attitudes and of course, helpful smiles.

As a company, Hy-Vee is quickly approaching our 90th Anniversary. That’s a big deal and something worth mentioning in this space. I’ve had so many good experiences during the last two years and eight months (to be precise).

Oh and trust me, I know how badly some of you want to play bingo in the Market Grille Express. Trust me when I say that I’m working diligently on a way that allows us to practice social distancing while gathering together. Maybe I can close down half of the parking lot?! Assuming we get a break from the heat & humidity “parking lot bingo” could become a new thing! Believe me when I tell you that bingo at Hy-Vee had become a thing that people looked forward to. One night we had over 90 people!

I’m not sure what the future holds, but I can tell you I personally have remained optimistic and positive. I want the best for everyone and know that we will get past these challenging times and be better for it. Take care, and please know that should you ever need anything from me I’m here!
