Musser Public Library anniversary celebration!

Join the Musser Public Library & HNI Community Center during its fifth anniversary (of being at the new location) celebration this Saturday, June 17, from 2 to 5 p.m. Festivities include; acoustic music, giant bubbles, prizes, food, a truck petting zoo (you read that correctly, large vehicles available for kids to experience and take photos with), and much more.

It’s hard to believe that it has been five years since the library opened its doors in the former HNI headquarters. I know that the library staff has been hard at work planning this event, and as a member of the board of trustees, I hope to see you and your family there! Our library is incredible and one of my favorite places in Muscatine.

Just last week (while I was off work), I started a conversation with a person visiting Muscatine from Utah. She had asked me where to go, and I included the Musser Public Library on my list. The look on her face when I told her how it once was a corporation’s headquarters was priceless. I can only assume that she visited and was impressed with our library.

I also want to remind you that the Musser Public Library is now fine-free! That decision was made a few months back and is something libraries across our area (including the Quad Cities) have all moved to. Not only have we seen an increase in users, but the library has also received numerous items that were overdue or thought to have been lost. I’m constantly triple-checking the books in my house to ensure they’re not from the library!

I have fond memories of time spent in the local libraries in my hometown of Oak Park, Illinois. I’ve previously shared with you how much great music I experienced while listening to it on CD (compact disc, for our younger readers) at the library.

What impresses me most about the Musser Public Library is how much of a community resource it is. From hosting outside meetings to providing access to technology to our unbelievable children’s department and our cable channel (Chanel Five on your MP&W cable system), our library continues to meet the needs of our growing community. So, stop by this Saturday, June 17, and celebrate with the Musser Public Library!
