MUSCATINE, Iowa–Muskies’ fans should prepare for a sweet treat Feb. 4 when the Muskie Booster Club Cake Auction makes its first appearance since 2020. With its classic theme of a “Night at the Movies,” supporters of students in all activities will have a great night contributing to the booster’s most important fundraiser of the year.
From American Sign Language Club to Tri-M Music Honor Society, baseball to wrestling, and everything in between, the Muskie Booster Club makes funds available to any club or athletic team that presents a need. As Muskie Booster Club President Megan Randoll explained it, the money generated from the cake auction and concession stand sales, “goes to anyone who comes to the activities department for help.”
As the Muskie Booster Club looks to make up for its limited revenue in 2020, they hope to have one of the most successful cake auctions in their more than 30 year history. “We’re hoping for a record breaking year,” Randoll said. “We’d love to see $30,000.”
Fortunately, the cake auction gives Muskie supporters many ways to assist the booster club. Beginning at 5 p.m. on Feb. 4, cake auction attendees can start off their night with a cake and ice cream social, spearheaded by teachers from Madison Elementary school. In addition to purchasing tasty desserts to eat that evening, people coming to the auction can also enjoy a hot pork chop meal prepared by the booster club for only $7.
During the boys and girls basketball double header, fans can bid on many delicious cakes in a silent auction held in the cafeteria. Well-sized for a family or small group, these cakes will prove a hit at your next gathering or special event.
In between the two games, the evening’s most exciting element, the live auction, will take place. Following tradition, Jami Schroeder of Schroeder Auctions will officiate over the live auction, where businesses and organizations from across the city will showcase their most impressive cakes and send them home with the highest bidders.
Along with all the great food, everyone at the cake auction can enjoy some other special activities too. A 50/50 raffle will give participants the chance to win some cash, while also supporting the Muskie Booster Club. A photo booth will provide a fun way for people to commemorate their night at the 32nd annual cake auction too.
An event near and dear to many Muscatine resident’s hearts, Randoll feels elated the boosters can hold the cake auction in person again this February. “It’s that tradition–it’s that history,” reminisced Randoll. “The energy from the kids, adults, and businesses, it really draws a crowd.”
Whether you enjoy watching Muskie sports, attending plays and concerts, or encouraging students to pursue their hobbies or support worthy causes through clubs and activities, the Muskie Booster Club Cake Auction provides you with an opportunity to help all these groups have the funds they need to continue.
