MUSCATINE, Iowa–For four years, Ognadon “Eddie” Djagou has worked to grow his business, DJAAGOU A EXPORT LLC, located at 1324 East Second Street, Muscatine. Founded in 2017, and incorporated in 2019, DJAAGOU A EXPORT LLC specializes in international shipping. Djagou had worked for several years to start his own company after graduating with a degree in marketing and management and immigrating to the United States in 2012. Djagou lived in the Quad Cities for some time before moving to Muscatine to take a job at Allsteel while he worked on creating his initial business plan.

For local residents, DJAAGOU A EXPORT LLC provides a variety of services designed to help immigrants thrive. DJAAGOU A EXPORT LLC sells international foods not found at other stores in the county, saving anyone who enjoys making international recipes the time and expense of traveling out of town to get ingredients. They also offer tax preparation, printing, international wire transfer services, and information about the immigration process to help immigrants and others navigate their own everyday business and personal needs.

Nationally and globally, Djagou has taken steps to continue growing his business worldwide and to bring in more local workers to benefit the Muscatine County economy. These include participating in the prestigious Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program and conducting trade talks with businesses throughout the west coast of Africa.

Recently, Djagou completed the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program, a national program with graduates from every state as well as several territories, which seeks to benefit small businesses across the country by providing their owners with easier access to capital, education, and support services. During his three months in the program, along with other small business owners from across Iowa, Djagou developed a growth plan for DJAAGOU A EXPORT LLC specifically tailored to creating more jobs in Muscatine County. By implementing his plan, Djagou hopes to see his business expand and to take firmer root in the community.

Along with participating in the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program, Djagou will also expand DJAAGOU A EXPORT LLC’s scope by taking a business trip to Africa to create more exporting opportunities. Djagou has meetings scheduled with wholesalers in five countries, including Ghana, Togo, Benin, Ivory Coast and Lagos. Each wholesaler has a lot of interest in importing goods from the United States and Iowa that they cannot get of comparable quality from neighboring countries. Djagou plans to meet with approximately five different businesses in each of the countries he visits, vastly enlarging the number of organizations DJAAGOU A EXPORT LLC does business with.

Since first opening its doors, DJAAGOU A EXPORT LLC has grown in both Muscatine and across the world. Djagou looks forward to helping it continue to flourish in the years to come.
