Durant firefighters injured in accident responding to call

DURANT, Iowa–Around 7:58 p.m. Monday, Muscatine Joint Communications (MUSCOM) received a call of a motor vehicle collision with injuries in the 1200 block of Vail Avenue south of Durant.

An officer from the Durant Police Department arrived within minutes and realized the collision involved a Durant firetruck responding to a call for service. The officer also noted that the other vehicle involved had since left the scene. Witnesses described the second vehicle as a Terra Gator type agricultural field sprayer.

Through investigation conducted on scene, investigators found the aforementioned vehicle located at 737 Lincoln Street at the Walcott Liqui-Grow. Investigators interviewed the driver, Kent Reimers, age 31, of Walcott and subsequently arrested him. Reimers has been charged with operating while intoxicated (first offense) and leaving the scene of a personal injury accident.

Several members of the Durant Fire Department went to area hospitals or received treatment on scene for injuries sustained in the collision. The investigation continues and additional charges may result, when applicable.

Those assisting with the investigation include the Muscatine County Sheriff’s Office, Scott County Sheriff’s Office, Durant Police Department, Walcott Police Department, Iowa State Patrol, and the Muscatine County Attorney’s Office.
