MUSCATINE, Iowa–The Friends of the Muscatine Art Center are pleased to announce the fundraising production of “Encore for Murder: The New Adventures of Mickey Spillane’s Mike Hammer,” created by Max Allan Collins, on Sept. 17, at 7 p.m. Presented in a radio show format, this is the first production of the show in Iowa.

In 2010, the play was staged at the International Mystery Writers Festival at Owensboro, Kentucky, and in 2018, in Clearwater, Florida, at Ruth Eckerd Hall’s Murray Theater, in both instances with Gary Sandy, of WKRP in Cincinnati fame as Mike Hammer. The Muscatine production will also include Gary Sandy as Mike Hammer, and is a special tribute for the 75th anniversary of the publication of the first Mickey Spillane novel, “I, the Jury,” in 1947. Upon Spillane’s death in 2006, Collins developed the unfinished Hammer drafts including a single page written by Spillane with the plot for this production.

Local actors with years of experience with stage, radio, and voice including the Pearl City Players, Muscatine Community College, Muscatine High School and local business personalities, will appear on the stage at Muscatine High School Auditorium with a seating capacity of over 600.

Don’t miss this one night only production celebrating Mike Hammer, with Gary Sandy, and the career of Max Allan Collins. Save the date – Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. (doors open at 6:30 p.m.) at the MHS Auditorium.

Muscatine Art Center Fundraising Tickets will be $15 per person for General Admission with upper bowl seating, and VIP tickets will be $50 per person with preferred lower bowl seating and a pass to the VIP Party at the Merrill Hotel’s Ballroom overlooking the Mississippi. The VIP Party includes desert and drink, as well as a question and answer session with Gary Sandy and Max Collins. Opportunities for red carpet pictures and autographs will also be available. Tickets go on sale August 10 through Booktix https://macfriends.booktix.com.
