MUSCATINE, Iowa–The Greater Muscatine Chamber of Commerce & Industry, in partnership with the Muscatine Art Center, conducted a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday, Sept. 9 at the Muscatine Art Center for the new sculpture “Expressive Spirit” by artist David Zahn. The sculpture was dedicated to the late Muscatine philanthropist Mary Jo Stanley. Stanley served as the chairperson for the Muscatine Art Center Support Foundation for 26 years and was dedicated to many causes throughout the community. The official ribbon cutting followed remarks from Muscatine Mayor Diana Broderson, Muscatine Art Center Director Melanie Alexander, sculptor David Zahn, and Joe Stanley, the son of Mary Jo and Richard (Dick) Stanley. In partnership with the University of Iowa’s Hancher Auditorium, Step Afrika! provided an energetic and engaging performance following the ceremony. The evening ended with Business After Hours where attendees were able to meet artist Rose Frantzen from Maquoketa and learn more about her exhibit The Optics of Illusion.
