MUSCATINE, Iowa–The Muscatine County Service Unit of Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois grants the following local awards:
Jessica Pierce, Camp Sacajawea Day Camp director, has been awarded the Appreciation Pin. This pin recognizes an individual’s exemplary service in support of delivering the Girl Scout leadership experience. Highlighted in the nomination for the award was Pierce’s commitment to the Service Unit’s annual day camp serving scouts from Muscatine, Louisa, and Cedar Counties. Coordination of adults, scouts, and program volunteers during a pandemic was a new experience for all who participated, and our day camp was once again a success, allowing our scouts to experience a great outdoor program. Pierce has been a long-time volunteer who stepped into the role of day camp director this past year. Pierce also serves as the Service Unit’s events coordinator.
Muscatine County Conservation Staff has been awarded the Outstanding Service Award. The staff of the Conservation Board are extremely critical in helping with our week-long day camp, which is held at Saulsbury Recreation Center. They help with the scheduling of camp and the rental of the lodge and canoes, and also by helping teaching fishing, archery, and other requested topics depending on the theme of the day camp. This county asset helps us to provide a safe environment for our scouts and one where parents feel safe in leaving their children for the program.
