GRANDVIEW, Iowa–The Grandview Community Club has finalized the schedule of events for the upcoming 4th of July Celebration. The festivities will feature many activities for children and adults with all activities taking place on July 3 and 4.
Beginning Sunday, July 3, The celebration will kick off with the Miss and Mr. 4th of July Pageant, to be held at the Grandview Academy Park at 6 p.m. Please contact Teresa Wass at 563-270-6974 for pageant information. Concessions will be available during the pageant until 7:30 p.m.
The Fourth Annual Doug Wolf Golf Cart Parade will begin at 8 p.m. Line up is at the northeast corner of Grandview Academy Park beginning at 7:30 p.m.
The 4th of July activities begin Monday morning at 6:30 a.m. with the registration for the Freedom Fun Run at the Grandview Academy Park. The Freedom Fun Run begins at 7:30 am. For more information contact Jean Bermel at 563-299-5639.
The Grandview Fire Department will be serving breakfast at the Grandview Academy Park from 6:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. Lunch vendors will open at 9:30 a.m.
In addition to the parking options within the town of Grandview, parking is also available on the frontage road (Old Highway 61) which runs parallel to Highway 61. Access from US Highway 61 will be shut off at 10:00 a.m. A shuttle service will be available to provide transportation to and from the park from 9:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. and noon until 1:30 pm.
The annual car show is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., with awards for the top 30 and best in show. The entry fee is $15. Registration is 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Cars will enter at the northeast corner of Grandview Academy Park. Contact Mike Smith at 563-260-7452 for additional information.
A Memorial Service will be held at 9:00 a.m. at the All Veteran’s Memorial located at the helicopter on Highway 92, just off of Highway 61.
A variety of vendors will be selling their wares throughout the park from 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Contact Dena Rinnert at 563-260-7849 for more information.
The pie contest will accept entries from 8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. at the shelter house in the Grandview Academy Park. Judging begins at 9:30 am. Prizes include: a $100 Grand Prize ages over 16, $50 ages 11–15 and $25 ages 4-10. Contact Gennifer Garrison 319-212-8274 for more information.
The Annual 4th of July Parade will begin at 11:00 a.m. Judging is at 10:30 a.m. Entrants must be lined up by 10:00 a.m. to be judged. This year’s parade theme is “It’s a Jam Session – A Celebration of Music.” This year’s Grand Marshalls will be former Louisa-Muscatine School District Band Director Mike Will and Kathy Will. This event continues the tradition of being an old-fashioned parade with no advertising allowed. This year, commercial businesses will be encouraged to enter a decorated float to be judged. There is no entry fee. Float categories continue to include Rural Sections, Town, Family, Organization, Religious, and Commercial. Float chairpersons/leaders are always needed. A Bags Tournament will be held in the southwest corner of Grandview Academy Park. Registration is at 12:00 p.m. with the tournament beginning at 1:00 p.m. Contact Chad Smith at 563-260-4823 for additional information.
Other entertainment includes, a petting zoo provided by the Louisa-Muscatine FFA; a dunk tank 12:00 – 1:30 p.m. ; 1:00 pm children’s games including a Kid’s Tractor Pull, a frog jumping contest (frogs will be provided or you may bring your own) and many others.
BINGO will begin at 1:30 pm, at 50¢ per card in the shelter house. Prizes include a $100 gift certificate from Bud’s Custom meats as the last raffle prize, as well as a $100 cash prize for the last bingo game.
This year’s live music is provided by local legend “Tommy T & the T-Bones” in the Grandview Academy Park from 6:30pm until the fireworks start.
The annual dollar raffle drawing with prizes of $500, $250, $100, and $50 along with a hog raffle awarding each of two winners with a half of a hog with processing included will be held at dusk, approximately 9:30 p.m. at the Grandview Academy Park immediately before the fireworks. Tickets are on sale now throughout the community and all-day July 4 in the park. The Grandview Community Club appreciates and encourages your support by participating in the raffles as it is the primary source of funding for the day’s events.
The day concludes with a fabulous fireworks display at dusk. Spectators may park in town and bring a lawn chair to the northwest side of the park to enjoy the display.
