Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours! I am so grateful that you read this column each week. Even if we have never met, I appreciate that.
Thanksgiving week is here, and even if we have more snow than I would like, I’m not going to let that stop me from enjoying things!
Do you have big plans for the holiday? Will you be the one to host your family and friends? Is anyone reading this going to deep fry a turkey?! I’m not sure if I trust myself to try and do that, but I think it’s super cool, and the turkey always tastes excellent.
I try to express my gratitude for the things I have in life on a regular basis, but I’m not perfect. I’m grateful for my health, my family, my friends, my job, and for the Muscatine community. I’m also really thankful to have this space to share my life, creativity, and sometimes ramblings with you.
My family and I will be enjoying time spent together and also have the opportunity to see some family members. I also hope to squeeze in watching football (both college and professional) and hopefully not having to use the shovel!
I know that the holidays can be really tough on some of us, especially if we’ve recently lost a loved one or friend. I hope you know that you are not alone, and I would encourage you to reach out to those in your life and communicate your feelings with them.
There are also a lot of volunteer opportunities across the community this week. Maybe you’ll spend Thanksgiving serving others at places like the Salvation Army of Muscatine County or the Jesus Mission. One thing I love about the holiday season is the spirit of giving that is present. I will personally be trying to capture that feeling and make it a year-round thing.
We’re also getting closer to a really fun event in the Jingle and Mingle (formerly known as the Holiday Stroll), which takes place next Friday, Dec. 2, in downtown Muscatine. Save the date and make plans to take a stroll and check out everything that’s going on. I know folks like my friend Sarah Siler will have pictures with Santa, MidWestOne Bank has their giant, lit-up tree, and much, much more. You can turn to Discover Muscatine and Pearl City Media for the latest information on the Jingle and Mingle.
Happy Thanksgiving, enjoy your day and don’t forget to listen to “Alice’s Restaurant,” a long-time Thanksgiving staple during my Vintage Sound 93.1 FM radio days. Enjoy!
