MUSCATINE, Iowa–Sept. 20, John Dabeet attended a meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh, and other top officials at the United Nations. Representing Americans & Palestinians for Peace, Dabeet participated in discussions about new ways for people in the United States to work for a lasting peace between Palestine and Israel.

During a visit to Palestine from mid July to August, Dabeet met with Abbas and Shtayyeh, talking about the importance of keeping Palestine in the consciousness of elected officials and the media in the United States as well as opportunities to work with churches and other organizations to raise awareness. Wanting to continue these talks, Dabeet received an invitation to attend the recent meeting at the UN. He felt grateful for the chance to attend and to continue shedding light on the difficulties Palestinians have faced over the last 74 years. “It’s always an honor to be part of meetings like that, and it’s humbling to be at the table,” he stated. “The work we continue to focus on the Palestinian narrative is even more important now.”
